The Story:
Healthy food shouldn’t depend on a zip code. In Northside, many kids grow up never seeing how food is grown—only how it’s packaged. The Oak Street Food Pantry is launching The Growth Project to change that by building six cedar raised-bed gardens filled with healthy soil and starter plants, right in the neighborhood.
The Impact:
These gardens become a hands-on outdoor classroom. Through “Saturday Soil” workshops, students learn how plants grow, why nutrition matters, and how food connects to health. Seasonal cooking and simple canning lessons will turn harvests into meals—teaching practical skills that families can use at home. Your support procures the materials to create real knowledge and a permanent place where food education takes root.
